An evening of design at the Hoxton Hotel in Holborn
The balloons were blown up, the popcorn (thank you Propercorn!) was neatly arranged and our surprise prizes had been hidden under three random chairs in the audience. The stage was set for the very first Layer design event at The Hoxton Hotel in Holborn.
Hosting an event as a fledgling business (just six months in) is terrifying. The fear is real – the fear that no one will turn up, that something will happen to embarrass you in front of all your new industry peers or the fear that you’ve forgotten to organise a vital part of the evening. But as the guests flooded into the wonderful Apartment Rooms at The Hoxton, the fear melted (mostly) into the background and we focused on the task at hand – providing everyone with wine, popcorn and an evening’s entrainment packed with design superstars and laughter.
We had a packed room full of our favourite interior designers, bloggers, stylists and anyone with an interest in design. Hosting the panel discussion was a breeze thanks to the expertise and charms of our four wonderful panellists; Emma Morley the founder and Creative Director of super cool workplace design agency Trifle Creative, Diana McKnight the Director of Studies at the prestigious KLC School of Design and the inimitable design duo Jordan and Russell, the powerhouses behind the design studio and blog 2 Lovely Gays.
One of the (many) highlights of the evening was meeting friends, colleagues and collaborators in person who we had previously only interacted with online. Putting faces to names is a wonderful thing! Amongst many others, it was brilliant to meet Martyn of Martyn White Designs, Grant of Interior Style Hunter fame, Jaime of Angloyankophile and the eponymous Nicky Percival, as well as many of our wonderful sellers.
So, here’s to you all – everyone who came and enjoyed the evening, laughed and applauded, enjoyed the wine and crunched on the popcorn. We had a wonderful time and we know that this is just the first of many. Please – keep your eyes peeled as we have some big things planned and we’d love to meet some more of you there.
