Creating pockets of texture and colour is Meme Laurence’s forte. With a twenty year career in the interiors and furniture industry, including spells working for the likes of Mulberry Home, Meme founded Mimos Interiors in 1999 and now designs characterful residential spaces across South London.
We chat to Meme about her signature style and what makes a perfect Sunday…
Is there a signature Mimos Interiors look?
Mimos style is classically contemporary – mixing antique, vintage pieces with contemporary design that is timeless, and elegant. Our aim is to design as space which is truly reflective of the client.
Do you have any top interior design tips?
Encourage home owners to work with a colour palette that continues through out the property, with different tones for the doors, ceilings and skirts, and intermittent accents of coloured paint or wall covering, giving the space a wonderful canvas to work with.
Fabrics add great texture and warmth, lighting is absolutely key, with good mood and task lighting and indeed a fabulous light can work as a piece of art. Texture is key, using different finishes.
What does home mean to you?
An oasis from everyday life, to relax and have fun with friends and family, or if required one that is an inspiring space to work in.
What are your three most treasured pieces?
Chair hammock bought in San Francisco in the 1980s, bit of a family heirloom! Moss framed picture, bringing the outside in. African Juju hats which I’ve loved forever.
What would a perfect Sunday be for you?
A lie in with the Sunday papers, a long walk in the countryside with friends and family ending in a pub for a late lunch with a log fire.
